Many people are daunted by effective custom web design, site optimization, internet marketing, seo, etc. How can you blame them? There are so many so called “experts” out there spouting off the latest internet tripe. With just a little research, you soon discover that these experts are usually hawking some business opportunity or selling software. So, we’re going to divest the entire process of it’s mysticism and make it as plain as possible. Here’s what you’ll need to market your business effectively on the internet. The first thing you’ll need is a great website. This is not the area where you want to play it cheap. Do not design your own website! Unless you’re a graphic designer, you’re probably not as artistic as you think that you are. Hire a good web design company. Think about it. The first contact that many prospective customers may have with your business are you marketing materials such as your web site. A well designed web site should educate, instill confidence and trust in potential customers and above all is A SALES OR CLOSING TOOL. This can not be emphasized enough. It should not merely be a pretty online brochure. It’s purpose to either directly or indirectly close business for you. Period.  Make sure you check around on the internet and observe your competitors websites before deciding on the design of your site. A good design company will help you with this. Study the design elements and features of the most successful companies in your industry. Do searches to determine which of their sites get top rankings in the search engines. Also, look for opportunities to innovate to make your website even better than theirs. Make it clear what you want from your website to your web design company. After your site is constructed, the next thing that you need is for your site to be optimized. Site optimization consists of selecting the right keywords and then imbedding those meta keywords and phrases in the pages and links of your site, installing site maps, doing link exchanges, installing robots and analytics, tying in blogs and article directories, posting articles, and more. This makes your website search engine friendly and helps to get you higher rankings in the search results. Make sure your design company is experienced at this. Some designers are just so eager to get the business that they’ll claim to know more than what they actually do. Do not bypass the site optimization step and just try to submit your site to the search engines. All that will happen is that no one will ever be able to find it. The last component is actually internet marketing or promoting your site. One popular way is submitting your optimized website to the search engines. There are literally thousands to choose from. However, the majority of searches are done through: Google, Yahoo, AOL and MSN. A study conducted by Berrier Associates shows that of people who spend five or more hours a week online, they average an astounding 71% of their time searching for information. Other research shows that the most common method of finding a website is through search engines. Google powers over 70% of all searches and is the trendsetter for algorithm creation. Therefore, search engine marketing is of paramount importance. Some search engines are free and others you pay for. A good SEO company can advise on which search engines work best for you.  By applying just these simple strategies, you will be well on your way to getting good results from your internet marketing.

What Do I Need To Do To Start Marketing My Business On The Internet?

Most businessmen sell a business only once or twice in their lifetime. Selling a business may be the most difficult task for a businessman who might have taken years to build a profitable and reputable business. When he puts it up for sale, he hopes to recover the price for all that he has put into it. Selling a business can be profitable decision or one that can result in the loss of one’s life’s work. It is advisable for businessmen to hire professionals for selling their business. If your business falls into the mid-market category and you aim to drive a strategic deal out of your sale, you will require an expert merger and acquisition advisor. But if your business belongs to the Main Street and you just want to get the best price for it, you might need a business broker. Below, we discuss some of the differences between the two professionals, which can help one decide whom to hire for selling a business. • Type of BusinessBusiness brokers specialize in what are called main street businesses, which could be in the range of $100,000 to 1,000,000 in revenues and include businesses like restaurants, dry cleaners, gas stations, convenience stores etc. M&A advisors usually take on businesses with larger turnover, like manufacturing units, technology firms, distributors etc. If the business to be sold is amongst main street businesses, the services of a business broker to sell the business would be appropriate, whereas if it is larger, then the services of a merger and acquisition advisor would be needed. • Targeted BuyerBusiness brokers target individual businessmen for selling a business, whereas M&A advisors are connected with corporate buyers, who seek a strategic reason behind a merger or an acquisition.   • Business ValuationBusiness brokers generally apply “rule of the thumb” valuations for main street businesses to determine their selling price. Such valuations rarely vary. Merger and acquisition advisors are called in when there can be a broad interpretation of strategic value and rules of thumb do not apply. Large businesses generally have high components of niche services, intellectual properties, strong customer base etc, which make the strategic value for the business vary widely. • Complexity of TransactionBusiness brokers handle small businesses to sell and their clients consist of individuals. The process of selling the business is simpler as compared to larger corporations. Contracts for small businesses are straightforward and negotiations are based on the requirements of the seller, price and financing. For a merger and acquisition advisor, the target is a corporate buyer, who is an expert at M&A deals. Corporate buyers have different teams working for them like legal experts, investment bankers, valuation professionals etc. and their contracts are extremely complex. A corporate buyer sends in teams to conduct due diligence and examine the business to sell in detail. Hence if the business to sell is a large corporation, the seller will need a merger and acquisition advisor, who is equipped and experienced to negotiate with such pros.  • Volume of ClientsBusiness brokers represent as many businesses for sale as they can. For business brokers, it is a benefit to have many businesses listed with them when they are contacting individual buyers. Business brokers rely on mass email a campaign, posting on websites etc. and their attention is divided amongst many clients at one point of time. Merger and acquisition advisors, on the other hand, have an exclusive clientele of 3 to 4 clients per professional. With specific industry niches and a customized database of contacts, merger and acquisition advisors give their clients the personal and professional touch that they demand. • FeesBusiness brokers have a system of a minimum upfront fee plus around 10% of the transaction fee on completion of a successful deal. They do not charge monthly fees. Merger and acquisition advisors, on the other hand, charge a substantial upfront fee or a monthly fee in the range of $3000 to $10,000 per month. M&A advisors also charge a percentage of transaction value as fees on completion of the deal, which is decided on basis of the size of the business. Big Wall Street M&A companies are known to refuse transactions below $1 million in fees. Based on the points made above, you can decide whether to hire a business broker or an M&A advisor for selling your business. The major deciding factor will be the cost that you are willing to incur. Keep in mind that if you have a small business to sell, it will not be able to sustain substantial upfront as well as monthly fees of the merger and acquisition advisor. Hence it would be better to go for a business broker. Go for a merger and acquisition advisor only if you need to sell a large corporation with high intellectual property and niche services.

What Do I Need To Do To Start Marketing My Business On The Internet?

August 18th, 2010

How to start a successful online business has until now been something that has evaded me, but not because of lack of effort. My past efforts to launch a successful business have failed (not counting the two eCommerce startups I worked on) primarily due to a lack of focus, plus the fact that I floated from system to system and from this hot internet marketing scheme to another. The result of my lack of focus was that I ended up with a hodgepodge of approaches, spent thousands of dollars on the latest fad internet marketing gimmick and ended up with nothing but some piddling Google Adsense and Commission Junction money to show for it. Quite frankly, I have been disappointed with my previous lack of results. But, Who’s to Blame? Me of course. I was the one without focus, without a plan, without a system. So I decided to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements of the future. This meant starting all over again and throwing away all of my misguided past attempts. This time my I was going to have FOCUS and clear all the noise out of my life so that I could focus. I unsubscribed to all the zillions of “Make a Billion $ in 2 Hours” newsletters and offers that were flooding my email (and that I was wasting time reading). This time I was going to find the right business model, settle on ONE system and concentrate on it. Period. I started my planning and searching for a new way of doing business by combing through a hundred of different opportunities posed on the internet. When I started to look at the internet business opportunities available online, it quickly became overwhelming. I found thousands upon thousands of moneymaking opportunities and hundreds of millions of websites dedicated to the subject. I found every thing from online gambling, paid to read email, paid to complete surveys, affiliate marketing programs, freelancing opportunities, multi-level marketing (MLM) programs – on and on and on. I also found thousands of websites promoting online business schemes that promised great riches, all you had to do is sign up, pay the sign up fee and then sit back and rake in millions in profits while bikini clad babes waited on you. Of course the majority of these are scams with ridiculous come-ons. Whenever I saw a business promoter bragging about their ClickBank or Google earnings (with photocopies of their big checks) or they guaranteed a profit I quickly ruled them out. I believe that the more the hype, the less trustworthy the source. It was disappointing to find that the majority of business opportunities out there are from self professed gurus that are only willing to take your money but offer no benefit or real service in return. Most seemed to offer a snatch, grab and run approach. In conducting my due diligence and research one thing that amused me was the so called independent product/business reviews. I found so many postings claiming to be an independent review of a business it amazed me. Of course, they were really disguises meant to get you to sign up to a new Internet Marketing system, or some other program, using their affiliate links buried somewhere in their “independent review”. All in all, I’d guess that 99% of the opportunities I reviewed were pure, adulterated crap!I am pleased to say though, that there are real business systems out there, sponsored by people that really do want to help you succeed online. Of course they would gain by you signing up for their “system”, but that’s really a good thing if you think about it. The best business model is one where your sponsor has a vested interest in your success. There’s a lot to be said for someone that is vested in your success, because if you make money, he/she makes money. Now that’s a good thing – you succeed, they succeed. During my search for a business opportunity I realized I had to set some guiding principles or rules to guide my decision making process. I wanted to end up with a winner. Picking a winner has to be a business decision with no guesswork involved. You can come up with your own rules for picking a business. The important thing is that you have some, you stick to them and that they fit your personality, goals and your business plan. You do have a business plan, don’t you?So here are the rules that I established to guide my decision in picking a home based internet business opportunity. These are just some guidelines – please add your own criteria to fit your situation. It must be a business where I can help others succeed. The more people that I can help to succeed, the more I succeed. It must embrace a culture of “enthusiasm about the success of others”. It must be based on a System that offers a proven roadmap that has already been tried and proven to work. The roadmap should be something that anyone, regardless of expertise can follow and master. Anyone who wants to succeed can succeed as long as they put in the effort. It should be a business that can be done part time. The majority of people that want to start a home business need to do so on a part time basis. The sponsors of the system must already have a good record of success and be vested in my success. If you want to succeed, hang around with successful people. The really successful people in life have learned that helping others is a key to success. It must offer a person with a small budget the opportunity to join in, succeed and profit. By eliminating the cost of joining the business, more people can join in, become successful, and realize their dreams. Residual income is critical in order to building a recurring stream of income. Wealth is built on recurring income, not on one-shot sales. It must offer multiple streams or ways of generating income and not be reliant on just one approach or product. Staying power and lifespan are important in that a business being built today will still be a viable business model in the future. It cannot rely on the latest Internet fad or a single strategy as the primary way of making a profit. It needs to be something that any potential business owner can do regardless of technical or business expertise. The vast majority of potential business owners have limited technical expertise and/or they have never run a business of their own before. 10. Training and/or mentoring are critical components of the program. Business owners need to know they will have access to an outstanding training program, be supported and that there is always someone available to help them ANYTIME they need it. The business must be replicable – if I can do it, anyone can do it. And perhaps the most important to me is that the business needs to offer its owners/participants a sense of community and foster involvement, success and a giving attitude. Working with others is a far better way of ensuring success than working in solitude. There you have it, my 12 guiding principles for selecting an Internet Business Opportunity that will be a winner. Perhaps 1 in a 1000 businesses – be they the brick and mortar type or a home based Internet business will be able to meet these requirements. But, I am happy to say I have found one and you can check it out at GensPlan, which has merged with Rags2Riches. net. It’s time to move ahead and take action.

Do you own a computer service business that needs better marketing results?   Many computer consultants start out thinking the home user, or B2C (Business to Consumer) market is the right place to be; but they quickly realize the difficulty of making a profit as a one-person (maybe two-person) operation catering to the needs of home users.   If you own a computer service business that wants to provide solutions to small businesses, you need to realize that there are a lot of different types of small businesses out there.   This article goes over 3 ways to define the “small” in small business and figure out which type of small business is the best focus for your computer services business. 1. Know about Home-Based Businesses and Micro-Small Businesses. A home-based business typically just involves 1-2 computers and an individual. A micro-small business is just one very small step up from that in size, with 5-10 employees and that many or fewer computer systems. If you focus too much on home-based businesses and micro-small businesses, you’ll have a hard time selling a lot of ongoing services agreements. While both types of businesses are technically within the definition of “small business,” they may not be the best clients for your computer service business. 2. Avoid Targeting Micro-Small and Home-Based Businesses. First of all, these kinds of small businesses often have lots of consumer-grade PC’s, which will not be a big help for implementing sophisticated client/server networking solutions.  Secondly, these kinds of small businesses often use pirated software, which will give you major problems when you start to develop long-term technology plans and complex networks. Thirdly, most of these kinds of small businesses will be reluctant, and often unable to pay for your sophisticated, high-end professional services. Fourthly, these kinds of tiny small businesses often believe that IT is not that important to their company, so they don’t need the benefits you are offering. And finally, these kinds of tiny small businesses are usually too small to afford a real, dedicated server and a real client/server network, making your solutions overkill. 3. Great Computer Service Business Success Resides in Small Businesses with 10 or More PCs. Computer service business owners that target companies with at least 10 PC’s are generally more successful at building strong businesses. At that point, small businesses cannot continue to run peer-to-peer networks. They also cannot afford to wait for volunteers and moonlighters to get around to responding to needs or emergencies. Small businesses that have 10 or more systems start to get really serious about putting in real client server networks, dependable back-up solutions, reliable power protection  and secure firewalls. At this size, small business decision makers usually understand the need for more sophisticated total business solutions. They also know that they need to use IT more strategically in order to compete and grow. Small businesses with 10 or more systems are ideal because they will rely on your expertise and will understand why they need a very professional computer service business to take ownership of the total business problem, provide on-going service and not just respond to emergencies one at a time. In this short article we discussed 3 tips to help you focus your computer service business.
